THE 2017 DOUG MORAN NATIONAL PORTRAIT PRIZE

CALL FOR ENTRIES

First Prize: $150,000

Total prize money: $180,000

Closing date for entries: Wednesday 30 August, 2017

The Moran Arts Foundation is inviting artists to enter Australia’s richest art competition, the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize.

The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (DMNPP), with prize money of $180,000 including a $150,000 first prize, invites entries of original works from Australian artists, capturing Australians from all walks of life, whether a public figure or someone from their own circle of experience. Works must be painted at least partly from life with the sitter known to the artist and aware of the artist’s intention to enter the Prize.

The winner of this year’s Doug Moran National Portrait Prize will be selected by Daniel Thomas AM, Emeritus Director of the Art Gallery of South Australia, Wendy Sharpe, one of Australia’s most awarded artists and Greta Moran, Director Moran Arts Foundation.

This year, the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize will be held at separate times, with calls for entry in the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize to take place in January 2018.

“The last several years have seen a significant increase in the numbers of entrants to the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize as well as burgeoning audience attendance at the exhibition of finalists,” said Peter Moran.

“The growth in interest in the Photographic Prize is such that the Moran Arts Foundation wants to recognize photography as an art form in its own right and give the artists the profile they deserve.”

Entries for the 2017 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize close on Wednesday 30 August and the winners will be announced on Wednesday October 25th at Juniper Hall in Paddington.

Entries can be submitted online at www.moranprizes.com.au
