Larkin Poe @ Oxford Art Factory 22 April 2019

While waiting in line to enter the Oxford Art Factory, the couple behind us mentioned that they drove in from Canberra to see Larkin Poe and are going to drive back straight after. I’m guessing that the ride back home was a breeze. With the Lovell sisterduo charging the room with so much youthful energy we doubt anyone attended was able to sleep for hours later.
With a fantastic “engine room” on drums and bass guitar behind them Rebecca and Megan had the crowd at the palm of their hands. Performing materials from their latest album “Venom and Faith” – released late last year – and pieces from previous albums, “Peach” and “Reskinned” the middle aged crowd that packed the venue was overtaken with an excellent and precise display of Blues, Roots and good old rock n’ roll.
Rebecca’s voice is full, comforting and charismatic as is her persona, which shines out with an elegant melange of vulnerability and confidence. Big Sister Megan provides a perfect balance with her 1940’s Rickenbacker lap steel guitar and some cracking guitar solos that made everyone present thank them selves for buying that ticket. Larkin Poe is a great, diverse, exciting and interesting band. Their originals are beautiful and their cover versions – “Black Betty”, “John The Revelator” – are to the point that makes one smile with content.
We can’t wait for their next visit….
