CHAIKA, Sydney Folk Festival and Music Film Festival – Arts Monday

The Sydney Folk Festival is a three-day celebration of the best and most adventurous in today’s folk music from worldly beats to original voices, traditional music including ballads, celtic, shanties, blues, bluegrass, newgrass, bush music and beyond. Sydney-based sextet, Chaika are headlining at the Sydney Folk Festival. Their new album, ARROW is inspired by Australia’s stunning landscapes mixed with Balkan vibrancy, Turkish markets, and Celtic stories. CHAIKA are Laura Altman (clarinet, vocals), Laura Bishop (percussion, piano, accordion, vocals), Susie Bishop (violin, guitar, vocals), Johan Delin (double bass, vocals), Rendra Freestone (percussion, guitar, vocals) and Emily-Rose Šarkova (accordion, piano, vocals).

The Inaugural Palace Touring: 2019 Music Film Festival features a kaleidoscopic series of master music feature films covering the past 40 years. Opening night features the Australian Premiere of  The Doors: The Final Cut, directed by Oliver Stone – portraying the psychedelic 60’s and the myth of The Doors’ iconic front-man Jim Morrison. Other films include The Beatles: Eight Days A Week; Amy; Control; Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration; Gurrumul and The Last Waltz. The Festival closes with The Chills: The Triumph & Tragedy of Martin Phillips– a new music documentary which is an honest and inspiring tribute to New Zealand music’s most genius and loved bands, as told through the eyes of their eccentric band leader.
