REVEALED! 21 January 2021

Join Maisy Stapleton and Paula Towers to explore beneath the city and discover one of Sydney’s major metropolitan galleries.

Firstly, a new exhibition, Thresholds, opens at the Tin Sheds Gallery, School of Architecture, Design and Planning, Sydney University.

A collaboration between artists Julia Davis and Lisa Jones, curated by Claire Taylor, the exhibition takes visitors deep down into layers beneath the city, immersing them in a dark subterranean landscape and the accumulations of time and underground activity. Through drawings, photographs and a video installation the artists open our eyes to a parallel landscape, that exists in tandem with our overworld and helps us glimpse the breadth of human impact on levels we cannot see, as well as those visible in our everyday lives.

John Cheeseman and Katrina Cashman

Then we explore Mosman Art Gallery with Senior Curator/Assistant Director Katrina Cashman and Director John Cheeseman, discovering the multiple roles and activities of this major regional gallery, which has been operating successfully for over 20 years. You may be surprised at the complexity of a working gallery in today’s world.

Mosman’s current major exhibition is Wendy Sharpe’s Ghosts, which we featured on Arts Thursday late in 2020 (https://wp.eastsidefm.org/from-unseen-to-resilient-10-december-2020/ ).
