Presented by Bronwyn Rennex
On today’s show I play an interview I recorded earlier in the week with Hugh Stewart and Rachel Knepfer about their fabulous, on a whim, impromptu Lockdown Picture Show in the windows of Hugh’s gallery/office/studio in Halls Lane. It started with a simple invitation sent out to friends, which said:
“In the spirit of keeping us all together, keeping it all together, in the face of things falling apart: we invite you to be part of a lockdown picture show…..a picture of yourself shot on your phone, a portrait of a flower, something you love, your husband, your mother. A protest, a lament, a drawing, a photograph, a poem. Anything goes…”
Seeing as both have substantial careers in photography, Rachel as an esteemed photo editor and Hugh as a photographer, there’s some big names in the photography world included in the show. What’s lovely about it though, is that those photographers are shown alongside kids pencil drawings, people’s photos of their pets. As they say, ” it’s a bit like the party we can’t have.”
If you aren’t within 5km and able to jog past in your active wear, you can check it out online (follow the links at the top of this page).
The music today – some of the people who are depicted in the show like Nick Cave, Paul Kelly and Courtney Love, plus some music suggested by Rachel and a few more thrown in by me, just because.
Thanks for listening.
If you missed the show and want to listen online. You can here.
PS – it also happens to be World Photography Day!!
