Prepare yourself for an unforgettable night of music, culture and meaning, when Coloured Stone, Australia’s premier Aboriginal band, performs live at Lazybones Lounge in Marrickville.
Coloured Stone mixes rock, reggae, country, ska, funk, and disco to create a memorable musical experience. Their music reflects a passion for land rights, the environment, pride in their cultural heritage, and justice for Aboriginal people. Founded in 1977, its members originate from Koonibba, South Australia on the Nullarbor Plains. The band performs using guitar, bass, drums, and Aboriginal instruments such as the bundawuthada (gong stone), clap sticks, and didjeridu. Coloured Stone has one ARIA Award, has been nominated for three more, and has been recognised at many Australian music award ceremonies.
The band’s most famous single, “Black Boy”, was a success when it was first released in 1984. Upon reflecting on the song, one of the band’s founding members and lead vocalist, Bunna Lawrie, said, “Every time I play ‘Black Boy’, I see people dance, it heals people. It gives the younger generation hope. It gives them pride to be proud of their skin and proud of the culture, proud of who they are. That song carries a lot of hope and inspiration.”
Bunna is a member and respected elder of the Mirning people. He is also a whale-dreamer, songman, medicine man, and storyteller. He is supported by his son Jason Lee Scott on lead guitar and vocals, Juanita Tippins on vocals, Adam Ventoura on bass, Shane Tane on drums, and Sam Mcnally on keyboards. Don’t miss Coloured Stone when they perform at Lazybones Lounge on Friday 19th January and Saturday 20th January.
