Wild at Art + the Bondi Festival. Arts Wednesday

Wild at Art 2023. Grace.
Dr. Stephen Lightfoot, Australian Conservation Foundation

Wild at Art is a national initiative by the Australian Conservation Foundation. Kids aged 5-12 are asked to research a threatened native species, create an art work and write a short essay about their chosen plant or animal.

Stephen Lightfoot from ACF joins us to explain the details and entry requirements of the competition which closes on 12 August. We talk about the triple threat to our unique native plants and animals: habitat loss, climate change and introduced feral species.

There are many prize categories to be won. All entries from Sydney’s Eastern suburbs will be displayed in an exhibition at the Bondi Pavilion 2-3 November. So get creating now. It’s a shame it’s only 2 days, why not a month?

Helios, Bondi Festival 2024

The Bondi Festival is underway with a plethora of theatre, comedy, cabaret and interactive experiences, from Friday 5 to Sunday 21 July 2024.

This week we preview Helios – a multi award winner at festivals around the world. We talk to the performer in this one hand theatre piece, Jamie MacDowell. It is a modern retelling of Helios, the ancient Roman god who drove the sun across the sky each day in a golden chariot. This ancient myth is somehow intertwined with a boy taking a road trip in a stolen car and a lad living halfway up an historic hill in rural England.

Season runs 11-14 July at the Bondi Pavilion. More info and tickets here.
