Week of Work Experience @ Eastside Radio – Luke R

About Me

Hey everyone, I’m Luke Ryan from Turramurra High School doing a week of work experience here at Eastside Radio. As soon as I saw that I could do my work experience here I jumped at the chance. I’ve loved music all my life and have been playing drums for about 8 years now. I enjoy how music can make people feel and the emotions it can create from sad to happy to any emotion really. It’s such a powerful art form that I’m really interested in. I want to learn more about how the music industry works and how I can get involved in it as much as I can. I’m currently in a band that’s been around for a good couple of months now (go check it out if you want @faultline_sydney). We say that we play post grunge but it can be whatever we feel like sometimes. We’ve been playing around with a couple covers and some originals which has been such a fun time. I think working at Eastside Radio would help me learn how the music industry can operate and it seems like a fun time all round.

I think I was playing All The Small Things by Blink-182 here.

Music That Inspires Me

My music taste pretty diverse which I think really lets me take in a lot. My main genres include a whole lot of metal which includes deathcore like Lorna Shore, groove metal like Slipknot and other fast paced sub genres or just anything with good vocals. Some other genres I like are some pop-funk kind of bands like No More Kings or Here Come the Mummies, Australian hip-hop like Drapht, some Alt-Indie like Lime Cordiale and I’d like to keep going but there’s just too many to list. My favourite band has to be Electric Callboy which has a genre I can’t even begin to describe. I guess it’s a combination between euro pop, death metal, electronicore and techno.

I love Lorna Shore’s vocals, guitar solos and the overarching melodies and their drummer is amazing.
I love Here Come the Mummies stage presence and the feel of their music is just so cool. Pretty cool solos in this song too.
I love Electric Callboy’s energy and their mix of clean and metal vocals. Their unseriousness (if that’s even a word) approach to the whole music scene is hilarious.

All this music inspires the way I play drums and how I approach music as a whole. I’ll play whatever people want me to do like if they just want to jam or do something like jazz, rock and more.

Well anyway, I can’t wait to do this week of work experience. I think it’s going to be really fun and also I’ll get a view of how the music industry and media industry works which I’m excited for.
