my journey to Eastside Radio:
My name is Carolin, I’m 21 years old, I’ve just started my internship here at Eastside Radio fm and gonna be here for the next 2 months. I’m originally from Berlin, Germany and I’m currently studying Media Management at the SRH University in Berlin. I’ve always been fascinated by how journalism and especially tv and radio can connect people — whether it’s through music, stories, or just the right voice at the right moment. In 2020, I had my first internship at a newspaper publisher in Germany. From that moment on, I realized that I definitely wanted to work in this field when I was older. Since then, I have been trying to gain as much experience as possible in different areas of journalism. During my internship at one of Germany’s largest radio stations, I realized that my heart belongs to radio. After graduating from school, I started my studies and began working as a working student at a radio and television station in Berlin. Until last week, I had been working there for almost two years and had the opportunity to present and host many shows, both on TV and radio. I was able to gain a lot of experience. Now I am in my fifth semester and it was time for an internship. I wanted to step further out of my comfort zone and see how radio is done in other countries – that’s why I’m here. I want to learn what goes on behind the scenes — from producing shows to creating content that makes listeners stop and think. I’m really looking forward to my time at Eastside Radio 89.7 fm!

About me:
In my free time, I love doing Pilates, meeting up with my friends, and traveling. I want to visit as many countries as possible. With Australia, I have now visited my fifth continent. Yay! I also love walking my dog. Her name is Abby, and she is a Bernese Mountain Dog. She is very big, but she still thinks she is a little puppy. I also love to listen to music. My favorite genres are RnB, Pop and Rap – especially in English but German Rap is also very nice!

music and radio
When I was little, I played the accordion and flute. I always enjoyed music as a school subject. Music – and radio -shape our days without us even noticing. They keep us company while we’re driving, studying, or just existing. It’s like a friend who’s always there but never demands attention. That is also the reason why I’m so fascinating by radio. Radio is that it’s alive. You can feel that there’s someone on the other side of the microphone — thinking, reacting, laughing. It’s not edited or filtered to perfection; it’s real time, and that makes every second unpredictable and exciting at the same time. What I also love about radio is its authenticity. Unlike social media, it’s immediate and real — you can hear the passion, humor, and sometimes even the chaos of live moments. That’s what makes it special in general and also very special to me.
