Glen Hansard at the Sydney Opera House

Have you ever dreamed of travelling to the green Irish lands ? If so, Glen Hansard is definitely the artist for you. His folk music will transport you to the old country, to the very streets of Dublin, where he started his career as a busker in the 80’s.

Fast forward to  the 22nd and 23rd of October 2016 and the Sydney Opera House will welcome a legend of Irish music, the veteran singer-songwriter Glen Hansard. Time has passed since the release of the phenomenon ‘Falling Slowly’, an incredible folk ballad written for the movie, Once, in 2007. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and brought fame and recognition to The Frames frontman. Since that success, Hansard has continued to greet us with wonderful records, including his 2012’s “Rhythms and Repose”, and still works with his bands, The Frames and The Swell Season.

Now, after a travel through fortune, depression and tragedy, Hansard is back with a new record called “A Season On the Line”, including the song Didn’t He Ramble, sharing its name with his last Grammy nominated album, recorded and published one year ago. The energy of his incredible voice is still here, and the fantastic sensitivity of that Irish man keeps surprising us. Always evolving, but deeply attached to his origins, he remains rooted in his busking beginnings with new inspirations – such as Christmas howls on his annual street carols or to opening sets for his friend Eddie Vedder or Pearl Jam fame.

The Chicago Tribune describes: “sincerity, compassion and conviction… tied at the hip to his craft, Hansard delivered an engaging graduate-level course in the art of being a master singer-songwriter”. Glen will make his music resonate in the Sydney Opera House, with his ten-piece band including piano, strings and brass section for an evening of acoustic confessionals and intimate storytelling.
