WILDTHING and Behind the Museum
This Thursday, join Maisy Stapleton in a conversation with Frank Howarth PSM, the President of Museums Galleries Australia, the membership organisation for these organisations across Australia.
This forms part of an irregular series on ‘thought leaders’ in the arts and cultural world.
If you’ve ever wondered about the museum world behind the blockbusters or the current issues with the move of the Powerhouse to Parramatta and the arts sector’s focus on funding – or the lack of it, Frank brings this into perspective and explores the multiple roles of museums and galleries and their value within our changing world.

First up however, we’ll speak to Katrina Cashman, Senior Curator about the exhibition WILDTHING – Animals in Contemporary Art on show at the Mosman Art Gallery until 27 November.
This award-winning gallery has produced another show that is both visually stimulating and has its own story to tell about our relationship with the animals in our world.
Told through contemporary Australian art, produced within the last 15 years, WILDTHING traverses our attitudes, love for, use and abuse of the animal kingdom in art works that range from from a lego menagerie to an extraordinary Rhinoceros (after Durer) which, despite its inherent ferocity, stands adorned with human detritus.
