The Other Woman – The Life and Music of Nina Simone

“It’s hard to imagine anyone doing this better.” John Shand, SMH

“The bottom end of Schouw’s contralto was as opulent as some 300 year old cello.” John Shand, SMH 2017

After a recent SOLD OUT show Lisa Schouw and Peter Bailey return to the Camelot Lounge on the 28th and 29th (Sold out!) of June.

Lisa Schouw shares the life and songs of legendary singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist Nina Simone, leader of a generation of musicians, in the acclaimed show, The Other Woman: The Life & Music of Nina Simone. Along with Musical Director Peter Bailey, Schouw weaves together Simone’s best-loved songs and shines a new light on her finest and darkest hours.

From her birth in North Carolina in 1933 to her death in 2003, Simone was a performer of unsurpassed eclecticism, with her repertoire including soul, jazz, pop, show tunes and folk music.

The Other Woman explores the artist behind classic songs such as My Baby Just Cares for Me, House of the Rising Sun, Four Women, and I Loves You Porgy, as Simone’s troubled life is gently and lovingly revealed.

The Other Woman has performed to sell out seasons at The Studio Sydney Opera House and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

“Fans of Nina Simone – and everyone else – should let Lisa Schouw put her spell on them. The songs and stories are lovingly and seamlessly integrated, and, just as Simone herself will not soon be forgotten, nor will Schouw’s sumptuously-rich voice.” Sydney Morning Herald

“…the highly expressive range and style is not easy to carry off, but Schouw slips into the role effortlessly, adding dramatic interpretations of her own.” The Adelaide Advertiser
