Portraiture and Identity

It’s Archibald time again! Join me, Jane Raffan, Monday 28 May, for a program that takes an in-depth look at the nexus between portraiture and identity in the work of two very different Australian artists: Jenny Sages and TextaQueen.

Since 1989, Jenny Sages has been an Archibald finalist twenty times (People’s Choice in 2012), and has also won the Portia Geach Memorial Award for portraiture twice.

Contemporary artist TextaQueen’s portraits are executed in the humble and unforgiving ‘texta’ and felt-tip pen on paper. Our interviews focus on a series of self-portraits that ‘explore the personal evolution of identity, incorporating graphic elements into largely fictional metaphorical inner narratives.’

And the music? We’ll be listening to an eclectic playlist about gender and identity, with rock/pop classics from 1970 through to alternative releases from 2016.

As always, I look forward to your company, 10:30 to noon.

Jane
