EASTSIDE ALBUM OF THE WEEK PRESENTS
Marley Del Prete – Movement
[Released – 13 August, 2023 on Awake Nu Records]
Marley Del Prete explores vivaciously the elements of free and spiritual jazz in collaboration with an ensemble of some of Del Prete’s virtuosic jazz contemporaries. This record was created on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. Movement is a debut album by Melbourne/Naarm based Spiritual and Free Jazz trumpeter, Marley Del Prete. Produced by a local jazz wizard Nikodimos and mastered by UK spiritual jazz master Nat Birchall, ‘Movement’ explores the link between intense improvised trumpet and beautiful sultry melodies. Marley Del Prete’s Movement shares the spatial freedom of the early free Jazz New York loft scene, which birthed great saxophonists like Arthur Blythe and David Murray, and the Spiritual influences of the Coltranes and Pharoah Sanders. Marley’s trumpet contains a sophistication that is matched by the percussion of Gene Du Vergier & Max Hazeldine, which together find the rare grooves between the regard and disregard for conventional instrumental conversations between melody and structure.
