Arts Thursday with Maisy Stapleton on 10 August is a colourful and diverse as the Pilipino desert Halo-halo, an eye-popping medley of shaved ice, milk, jellies, fruit, sweet beans and whatever takes your fancy.
Arts Thursday continues to explore the Phillipines Art Project Bayanihan at Mosman Art Gallery and welcomes star performer, Geraldine Turner who, as another step in her stellar career, turns to directing a performance based on the songs of Jacques Brel.
The dessert, Halo-halo gives its inspiration to the exhibition halò, Mosman Art Gallery’s contribution to the Bayanihan Philippine Art Project staged in five galleries across Sydney.

Mosman Gallery’s contribution to the project, halò, features the work of three contemporary Philippine artists living in Sydney – JD Reformer and internationally renowned artists Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan. The works include an affectionate, if sardonic look at the Philippines’ engagement with American culture and an amazing installation – an enormous boat constructed of cardboard, ploughing through the gallery.
Then follows a lively and frank interview with the legendary performer Geraldine Turner around the upcoming performances of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, to be staged in Mittagong by CMS Productions from 17th August and from Thursday 10th August at Parramatta’s Riverside Theatre.
Jacques Brel was a symbol of the Beat Generation, with his songs of love, war, life and death, originally sung in French, emphasising their poignancy. The performance of Jacques Brel is Alive andWell and  Living in Paris, is directed by Geraldine Turner and produced by the Miranda Music Society – a community music organisation presenting musical theatre of the highest quality.
The performance pushes the boundaries of emotion and brings together the angst, the heartfelt emotions, the playful and the sardonic in a dynamically orchestrated combination of Brel’s songs, such as If we only have love.
