ARTS THURSDAY with Maisy Stapleton on 31 May.
WHAT’S ON TODAY’S PROGRAM:
Join Maisy Stapleton in conversation with two very different groups of artists to probe what ‘lies behind’ an artwork.
Firstly we’ll meet two artists who are showing at the Janet Clayton Gallery in Paddington.
In what will be the Gallery’s swansong exhibition, Heather Ellyard will be showing Continuum 6: hum with me the lullaby of stone – a series of installations that examine themes of our time, while Hanna Kay’s work in Equilibrium 2 explores relationships with nature in a series of luminous paintings.
I’ll be asking this formidable pair to speak about their work and its underlying rationale. It will be an opportunity to explore the minds of two highly accomplished and established artists.
In the second segment of the program I’ll introduce two senior artists from the Lockhart River, on the York Peninsular, to the far north of Queensland. Irene Namock and Silas Hobson along with Enoch Perazim, Manager of the Lockhart River Art Centre give us some insight into the meaning behind their paintings and the role of an Art Centre in supporting and nourishing aboriginal artists.
The work of both Silas and Irene plus other artists from the area is on exhibition at Simon Chan’s Art Atrium Gallery in Bondi Junction until 9 June.
