It’s the 2nd of July, 2024. Just wondering, how many high school students still listen to the radio nowadays? With the rise of social media – Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and many more – these are definitely the places most teenagers spend their time. Those trendy videos and posts are the main source of entertainment for us, and everyone spends hours on these platforms just to kill time and, of course, simply because no one wants to miss out. However, I believe radio is still valuable to us despite the changing world, and that’s why I am here for the next week as a work experience student.
My Work Experience at Eastside Radio
Hi there, I am Audrey, a year 11 student from St Catherine’s School Sydney. Becoming a radio host has always been my dream since I was a child, as listening to the radio always cheers me up and provides me with a ‘safe space’ through listening to different genres of music and stories from diverse people. Moreover, I LOVE TALKING! That’s also one of the main reasons I hope to become a radio host – to get a chance to share my own story with many different people, to cheer others up when they are down like those radio hosts who inspired me, and to connect with and influence others using my own life. Therefore, I chose to do my work experience at Eastside Radio, as I really want to meet people and be immersed in an environment with others who are passionate about the broadcasting industry.
As I mentioned, I believe even though fewer people are tuning in to radio these days, radio is still important to us as it provides us with something irreplaceable by social media. To me, radio shows and podcasts go beyond just seeking likes or views on social media. They are about sharing stories and creating a real connection with the audience. It feels like the presenters are speaking directly to you, inviting you to resonate with their experiences.
I know I’m going to gain lots of valuable skills at Eastside Radio in the upcoming days, and I couldn’t be more excited to be immersed in the world of radio!
