Five of Australia’s most distinctive and celebrated voices will come together in May 2019 to celebrate the music of singer, songwriter, musician, poet and literary genius Bob Dylan.
John Waters, Glenn Shorrock, Wendy Mathews, Doug Parkinson and Wes Carr will take to the stage, performing and interpreting some of the great songs from the Bob Dylan songbook. From Blowin’ in the Wind to Like A Rolling Stone, Hurricane to Knocking on Heaven’s Door – songs that have defined a generation, created a movement for change and went on to influence generations of writers and artists since the mid-20th century.
Dylan’s impact on popular culture cannot be disputed. Since his early releases in the 1960s, his music and songwriting have held a mirror to the changing political, cultural and social world we live in – the civil rights movement of the 1960s, the anti-war movement, world political movements and events; and was at the forefront of popularizing ‘folk music’ as a genre. In 2012, Dylan received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and in 2016, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”. More than 50 years since he started his career, Dylan continues to write, record and tour and is widely recognized as one of America’s most important cultural figures.
Music fans will rejoice in this event that showcases the Dylan’s extensive repertoire. Each artist – John Waters, Glenn Shorrock, Wendy Matthews, Doug Parkinson and Wes Carr – is a staunch Dylan fan and will bring their own interpretation to each song. This is a special and unmissable event.
