Bondi Pavilion update + NFTs explained

Bondi Pavilion

Waverley Mayor, Paula Masselos, gives us an update on the progress of the Bondi Pavilion renovations. Excitement is really building with an anticipated completion of works and grand opening scheduled for this August. With new art and performance spaces there are many opportunities for local artists in the refreshed complex. Expect 2 music studios, a community radio station, 2 new pottery kilns, a refurbished theatre and the Bondi Story Room which showcases and records the history of Bondi. As well there will be a selection of interesting venues for food and drink and also some beach appropriate retail outlets.

The Boot Factory was historically a place of manufacturing

Another new space set to open later this year is the Boot Factory. Built in 1892, it was literally a factory for manufacturing high end lady’s shoes. What we can expect in the refurbished development in Spring Street is hi-tech opportunities for creators and artists alike, with both physical and knowledge connections to the adjacent Waverley Library.

An NFT from the Drop Bear/Bush Chook collection

Have you ever wondered what all the fuss is about NFTs? Well that’s Non Fungible Token. Dr. Eric Lim of the UNSW School of Information Systems and Technology Management and Director of UNSW Crypto Clinic explains how NFTs are created and what is involved in  purchasing them. With record prices reaching $91 million, why are they so attractive to investors? We discuss other uses of NFTs including video games, music and ticketing, and ponder most importantly what it all means for physical art, artists and the exhibition of ‘real’ art in our galleries.
