Celebrating the Year of the Ox
It’s time to celebrate the Year of the Ox!
Sydney Lunar Festival begins on 12 February 2021. Take a stroll from Circular Quay to Haymarket to discover 12 larger-than-life Zodiac installations that illuminate at night. The Lunar Lanterns will be illuminated from dusk each day, however they can be viewed in daylight. Find these magnificent giant artworks on the Lunar Lanterns walk.
Or enjoy a sumptuous banquet at a Lunar Feasts event. The air comes alive with the sights, scents and sounds of Asian street food at The Rocks Lunar Markets. Open Friday to Sunday from February 12 to February 21, the vibrant stalls will be surrounded by live music, bright red lanterns, festoon lighting and a stunning Ox in a china shop display coming to life in Kendall Lane.
Community and cultural groups will take to the stage for this year’s Lunar Spectacular Show in celebration of The Year of the Ox. Performers will share their culture through dance, music, theatre, traditions and storytelling. The Lunar Spectacular program attracts cultures that celebrate the Lunar New Year including Chinese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese, Malaysian and Indonesian community groups. Expect to see contemporary and traditional dance, Japanese hip hop, Korean drumming and fashion shows.
There are over 50 events to explore as part of the program between 12 and 21 February.
