Mister Ott is busy writing and rehearsing the new album, but will be taking time out to get back to 505 early next month. Part of the Sydney Fringe Festival, 505 is a unique venue, and Mister Ott has had some amazing gigs there over the years. It will be a great night of music!
“The mysterious burst of sonic energy that is Mister Ott is infectious” – Lucy Kiely, Megaphone Oz
Fronted by acclaimed saxophonist Matthew Ottignon, Sydney outfit Mister Ott exhibits a strong ‘Ethiojazz’ influence as cultivated by musicians like Mulatu Astatke and Getatchew Mekurya.
Inspired by an Ethiopian tour he undertook with Dereb (‘The Ambassador’) Desalegn, Ottignon’s band marries mesmerising eastern sounds and hypnotic dance grooves with groove-heavy funk. The band’s first album ‘Drop It Like It’s Ott’ – a high caliber instrumental record that crosses world music with jazz, funk and Ethiopian music – was released in April 2015.
Frontman Matthew Ottignon plays the sax, Ellen Kirkwood the trumpet, on the keyboard is Daniel Pliner, the guitar is played by Ben Panucci, Eden Ottignon is on the bass and the drums are shared by Carlos Adura and Dan Kennedy.
“It’s a blast, from start to finish” promises Brad Skyes from Australian Stage
