Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is Philantropiques by Guts, released on the Heavenly Sweetness label.
Originally working as a producer and beat-maker, Guts first love was hip hop which saw him focus on the U.S – particularly artists coming out of New York.
In 2014 Guts opened up his musical taste and world view to include electro-funk, afro-disco, and space-jazz sounds of Brazil, the Caribbean and Africa.
For Philantropiques, Guts focussed on his beat-making abilities, pulling together his beat samples from years of collecting – to produce a wildly different sound.
Philantropiques is an experimental and sunny exploration of warmer climates. Loose your sense of direction as Guts steers you towards an Afro trance, with the roar of bass and whirling percussion, to smoothly land on a Brazilian jazz funk island.
