Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week: Feb 17 – Feb 21

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is The Slow Rush by Tame Impala, distributed by Universal Music Group.

Tame Impala is a psychedelic music project of Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker. In the recording studio, Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project’s music. The Slow Rush is Tame Impala’s fourth studio album, released on February 14, 2020. The album is centered around the theme and concept of time and how it can both take and give things throughout the progression of one’s life.

Allusions to the construct can be seen throughout the record, with Kevin Parker, the band’s sole member, vocalist, and instrumentalist, singing on major positive life events including his marriage, but also more somber topics including the passing of his father and wanting to have more time to do more valuable things with his life.

On March 22nd, 2019, Tame Impala began the rollout for The Slow Rush with the release of “Patience,” a promotional single for the record that did not appear on the final track listing for the record. Following this track, Tame Impala released four singles before the album’s release including “Borderline,” released on April 12, 2019, “It Might Be Time,” released on October 28, 2019, “Posthumous Forgiveness,” released on December 3, 2019, and “Lost In Yesterday,” released on January 8, 2020. However, the single version of “Borderline” was not included in the final version of the record, as the track was reworked by Kevin for the final track listing of The Slow Rush.
