Becoming a rock ‘n’ roll front man to impress girls – not an uncommon dream for a young boy. In the midst of his family’s financial problems, a young teenager from inner-city Dublin named Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) fantasizes of that very thing. Plucked from his expensive private school and placed into a rough-and-tumble public school, dealing with family troubles, and trying to impress a new girl, Conor begins going by Cosmo, writes a song, and he and his motley crew of friends throw together a music video in the only ways they know how.
With all the financial difficulties already faced by his family, Cosmo deals with a school bully and plenty of hurdles to following his musical career, but does the best he can in 80’s Dublin by begging, borrowing, and stealing – and then stealing some more.
By the end of it all, though his family troubles haven’t all been resolved, Cosmo realizes that they’ve made not only some pretty cool music but a pretty cool group of friends – and he got a kiss from the girl who made him want to start the music biz to begin with. The gang plays a party at the end of the school year and even manages to one-up Cosmo’s bully – to raucous applause from the crowd.
