City Recital Hall is celebrating Elena Kats-Chernin’s birthday bash with a special event befitting of one of Australia’s best loved composers. A spectacular line-up of celebrities, musicians and singers is descending on Angel Place on Saturday 4 November for this epic birthday bash – on day itself.
Elena Kats-Chernin, is one of the Australia’s leading composers, her music often combines chiseled rhythmic pulsation with a bittersweet melodic/harmonic language. She has created works across nearly every genre, from intimate compositions for piano to pieces for chamber ensembles, full scale choir and symphony orchestras as well as ballets and operas.
Elena’s music, performed by the nation’s top ensembles and orchestras, has delighted audiences for years. Her music reaches into our lives on film, TV and radio.
In 2017 her work for the Australian World Orchestra, The Witching Hour, was nominated for an APRAAMCOS Art Music Award for ‘Orchestral Work of the Year’ and her album of piano music, ‘Unsent Love Letters: meditations on Erik Satie’ performed by Tamara-Anna Cislowska, was nominated for a 2017 ARIA Award for ‘Best Classical Album’.
We hear Elena is calling this her second 30th. Whatever the number, you can be sure this concert will have some very special guests showcasing the wide and exhilarating appeal of Kats-Chernin’s works.
