Elisabeth Cummings is one of Australia’s most respected living artists. With a career spanning over 60 years she continues to paint the Australian landscape with her signature bold use of colour.
The “Elisabeth Cummings: Eastern Arrernte country & Morocco” exhibition is about to open at King Street Gallery on William and runs until 1 August. Arts Monday chats to gallery co-director, Randi Linnegar, about the exhibition and also what’s on for the rest of the year including exhibitions by Euan Macleod and Wendy Sharpe.
We also talk to Waverley Mayor, Paula Masselos, about two exciting projects coming to the area.
The Bondi Memorial Project is in the final stages of judging a winning design that will commemorate the victims of gay hate crimes in NSW between 1970 and 2000. Marks Park in Tamarama was the scene of some of these violent crimes, including several murders, and has been chosen as the site of this permanent memorial. You can view the 6 finalists and make donations to the project here.
Also the Boot Factory in Bondi Junction is set to undergo a restoration and repurposing as an arts and innovation hub. The 1892 building was formerly a factory making shoes and boots for David Jones amongst others.
And young violinist Grace Clifford has just been announced as one of the finalists in the 2020 Freedman Classical Fellowship. The $21,000 prize is one of the richest for aspiring classical and jazz musicians in Australia. Grace joins us to talk us through the judging process and what it could mean for her career.
