Former College DJ Transfers to Radio Down Under
Good morning, Sydney! It has been 3 years since I retired as DJ emorrismorris and wrapped up the talk radio show Half-Asleep, and I am more than happy to be back in a radio station and back in Australia. Half-Asleep was a weekly morning program on WSUM, the radio station of the University of Wisconsin – Madison, wherein I interviewed guests about their most recent or most memorable dreams. We also talked about what the world would be like if everyday was your birthday, if jumping rope got you high, or if you had the arms of a wacky wavy inflatable arm flailing tube man. Oh and we played a lot of great music like this:
After working in energy efficiency in New York City after school and deciding to take an Australian sabbatical, fate brought me to Eastside FM when I looked up from the Paddington Town Hall bus stop my first week here and saw the sign for the station, prompting me to immediately contact for a volunteer spot. I’m hoping listeners will hear from me every so often as I pop into the studio and help out with your long-loved DJs. Aside from a brief appearance as a contestant on NPR’s Ask Me Another in 2018 (did not win the Rubik’s cube) I have not been able to get a radio fix in way too long. Expect some interesting conversations and an American accent if I can steal a microphone.
This is my third time to Australia after studying abroad in Lismore and then coming back to be more of a tourist. But this is my first time staying in Sydney for a few months. I will be researching part-time at UNSW, exploring the music scene, swimming at Bondi Beach, and finding all the best vegan food (excepting fish and chips on Fridays, a Wisconsin tradition).
Thanks for having me, Eastside FM! Let’s have some fun…
