That’s right! The infamous 80s rock/pop diva who gave us ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ has jumped genres and released an album of her favourite country songs. Featuring country legends like Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and Alison Krauss, it is a very fun, often tongue-in-cheek glimpse into another side of Cyndi Lauper’s wonderful personality. It is light and fluffy and perhaps not as authentically “country” as purists would have it be but nothing Cyndi Lauper does could ever be unlikeable. Gotta love a woman who has a crack at everything!
Alice Night joins me in the studio for a chat about her debut album, ‘Culture. How Could You?’ and we hear brand new singles from Australian artists, Middle Kids, Julia Jacklin, Leah Flanagan, Charm of Finches, William Crighton and Colin Jones & The Delta Revue.
We also listen to ‘Alaska’ by Maggie Rogers, the song that made Pharrell sit up and listen, ‘Emotions and Math’ by Margaret Glaspy, another American singer-songwriter making waves internationally and beautiful new singles from Ryley Walker and Steve Gunn.
