In association with Sydney Festival – A Musical Adaption of Robert Hughes’ The Fatal Shore by Jeremy Rose and The Earshift Orchestra
Inspired by Robert Hughes’ famous book The Fatal Shore, Iron in the Blood is a captivating musical production with jazz orchestra, visual projections and narrated by acclaimed actors William Zappa and Patrick Dickson.
Iron in the Blood weaves together Hughes’ text with stunning projections, the documented voices of early colonists and a score praised for its eclecticism and boldness. Composed and conducted by Jeremy Rose the work is brought to life by his award-winning 17 piece Earshift Orchestra featuring Australia’s new generation of creative jazz talent.
This is a powerful work that celebrates The Fatal Shore, probably Australia’s best-read history book, and the harrowing tapestry of Australia’s colonial past.
“Jazz orchestra and two actors with superbly complementary big-screen visuals – the work is a dialogue between idioms and eras. This is a major Australian work…” ★★★★½ Sydney Morning Herald
