Leigh Carriage is a very talented singer songwriter and a consummate performer and musician, she is also an educator. Her latest and 8th album called ‘Weave’ is the one to open the program with this week.
Leigh has written all the music on the album and invisited some other lyric writers to collaborate with her on sime of the songs. She says this CD is in many ways a new direction and challenge. Weave will be launched at the Wangaratta Jazz and Blues Festival on October 30 this year and will also begin a national tour.
Also there will be a new recording from Indonesian born, now Sydney resident, pianist Francesca Prihasti, a band Haveli, that mixes jazz with Indian music and an early recording of veteran alto saxophonist David Rex.
The program will then open with a wordless vocal by Leigh Carriage called FILAMENT followed by a tribute to the late altoist Dave Ades who enjoyed playing his music in the sunshine, on the streets of Byron Bay where Leigh also lives. It’s called CATAPULT.
