Kaloune is an incredible author, musician and storyteller from La Reunion Island (an island nation near Madagascar). She spoke with Riley Lavelle Long and Nick Terry about growing up surrounded by maloya music, Reunionese traditional music passed down from her ancestors, creole slaves. Kaloune weaves together song, nursery thyme, traditional creole, French and poetry to express her identity. We were lucky enough to her sing in the studio with her mbira (thumb piano), take a listen to her powerful performance below.
Catch Kaloune live at the Django Bar at Camelot Lounge at 6 pm Thursday August 10th.
