Nanda Hobbs is delighted to present two exhibitions running concurrently at Nanda\Hobbs by artists Jonathan Dalton and Dee Smart —from 21 November to 14 December, 2019.
Dalton, for all his technical expertise, is a painter of ideas who is not worried that an audience might find meanings and messages in his work. A student of philosophy before he took up painting, he delights in visual puzzles that careless viewers might not even notice. It takes a moment’s study to realise there is a red glass bauble from a Christmas tree included in a bowl of bright red tomatoes, or a yellow billiard ball slipped into a bowl of lemons. The natural is pitted against the artificial, setting up a host of questions. – John McDonald.-
“Tinder for Tudors”….Intrigued by the salaciousness of the methodology of attraction in the time of Henry Tudor, Sydney artist Dee Smart’s exhibition titled “A Synopsis of Love” draws parallels across the centuries. It is an important discourse on how we wish to portray ourselves and, in doing so, our need to attract and find love in the digital age. –Ralph Hobbs.-
Artist Talk in the gallery with Jonathan and Dee in conversation with Ralph Hobbs—on Saturday 23 November at 2pm and via Instagram Live.
