We’re very pleased to bring you selections from the latest album from Mark McGrain all this next week on Eastside Radio. McGrain is a composer, trombonist and New Orleans stalwart, and he’s brought a team of fellow New Orleans heavyweights along for the ride on this record: John Boutte on vocals, Matt Lemmler on keys, and James Singleton on contrabass.
It’s wonderful stuff, Boutte sings on three of the eleven tracks, and the remaining compositions see the players move through a range of musical styles “from New Orleans stride piano and trombone duets to modern, rhythmically stirring swing, bossa nova, gospel, and even salsa melodies.”
New Orleans jazz fans may well be familiar with McGrain’s previous work as part of Plunge, so there’s some great back catalogue there to dig through if your ears like what they’re hearing.
We here at Eastside implore you to hear this great new 2018 jazz release any way you can. You can listen back to the Album Of The Week show here, stream the album on Spotify here, and purchase the album from Immersion Records here.
