Named one of the Top 200 Jazz Clubs in the World, Foundry616 is Sydney’s premier jazz venue offering live music, six nights a week. This month at Foundry we celebrate the unique improvisation and intensely creative extemporisations of many of Sydney’s top jazz musicians. With artists such as Paul Cutlan, Michael Griffin and Tim Bruer exploring the full spectrum of “trad jazz,” from dixieland to hard bop and beyond.
COLTRANE PROJECT – Thursday 7th March: Led by saxophonist/composer Paul Cutlan , the Coltrane Project welcomes a star band with a program continuing their exploration of the “Coltrane Era” from Giant Steps through to Impressions.
MICHAEL GRIFFIN – Friday 8th March: Leading Sydney Saxophonist Michael Griffin returns to Foundry once again, this time performing the hits of the great Antonio Carlos Jobim. Expect to hear all of your favorites including “The Girl From Ipanema”, “Corcovado”, “Wave”, “Meditation”, “If You Never Come To Me”, and many more.
CHASING THE MOON – Saturday 9th March: With the recent release of their second album ‘Ooh La La,’ Chasing the Moon are a 6-piece jazz band, inspired by the romantic and swinging sounds of Hot Club Jazz. In performance, they create a delicious feast of swing, chanson, Latin, blues and modern sounds.
TIM BRUER QUARTET – Wednesday 13th: March: Taking a creative and organic approach to original repertoire, the Tim Bruer Quartet presents music that ranges from hard driving Modal tunes through to lyrical, European style pieces.
FRANCES MADDEN – Friday 15th March: If you haven’t been lucky enough to catch her yet, Frances’ music is jazz-oriented but original and with a broad popular appeal. Her shows are a mix of her own enchanting swing, ballads and blues as well as her unique take on timeless classics.
MATT MCMAHON QUARTET – Wednesday 20th March: The Matt McMahon quartet features the addition of award-winning saxophonist Matt Keegan to the Matt McMahon trio. Expect to hear McMahon originals and choice standards as these musicians draw from their many influences in the jazz world and beyond.
EMMA PASK – Friday/Saturday 29th and 30th March: One of the most outstanding jazz vocalists in Australia, Emma Pask, returns to Foundry616. Whether it’s a ballad or burning up tempo song from the great American songbook, Emma Pask makes them all her own.
