Hi everyone!
My name is Andrew Isaacson. I am 22 years old and from New York City. I graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and political science and have aspirations of reporting or managing social media accounts for a media company in the future.
I worked as a reporter and editor for Lehigh’s student newspaper for four years which included being the managing editor of new media during my last semester. For two years, I was a freelance reporter for a local Pennsylvania newspaper and wrote a lot of human-interest and community stories. During the fall of my senior year, I interned in the university’s communications department where I got to manage their social media accounts and create weekly promotional projects.
During the summer of 2021, I interned at a news agency in Israel for seven weeks. It was a crazy time to be a reporter there since I arrived right after the 2021 Israel-Palestine crisis occurred and when Prime Minister Netanyahu was originally ousted from power. I got to witness the aftermath of the war and a lot of protests in the street.
I’m currently on a gap year and have been traveling around the world for the last five months. I lived in Barcelona for six weeks learning Spanish and traveled around Europe on the weekends. I then spent six weeks in Thailand volunteering at an elephant sanctuary, a school for young Thai children and a nature education center.
I traveled around New Zealand, Melbourne and Cairns before arriving here in Sydney where I will be living and working for the next six weeks.
I’m beyond excited to start my internship with Eastside and to learn more about radio and new music genres. I can’t wait to gain more writing and interviewing experience along with new skills in audio, arts and production.
My favorite music genres include rock, rap, pop, and EDM, but I’m eager to expose myself to new kinds of music.
I’m grateful to have this internship as another stepping stone towards my journalism career and having that extra period to figure out which area of the industry I want to go down before searching for my first job.
I’m super excited for the next six weeks at Eastside and to live in Sydney which has been truly life changing so far.
