Michael Griffin, one of the elite players of Australian Jazz, will take lucky Sydneysider’s into his world of beautiful sound on Sunday Evenings in May at O’Malleys Hotel in Woolloomooloo.
Griffin, a Semi-finalist at the 2013 Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition in Washington D.C., was described in Downbeat Magazine as “Flaunting an assertive tone, with an advanced harmonic sensibility and technical fluency that confirms his reverence to Bird and Cannonball Adderley.”
Alongside the wizardry of Aaron Blakey on key and the dynamic Phil Stack on bass, witness the giant killer on alto saxophone, Michael Griffin and see why this ambassador of Australian Jazz is compared to Dale Barlow and Errol Buddle.
“He can do what I could never do – I can put the saxophone away” – Bob Bertles
“Griffin leads a quartet that knows how to get off the ground- that is, how to swing”- Eric Myers (The Australian)
If you’ve not yet heard Michael Griffin, do yourself and favour and take the chance to hear what we’ve got on these shores.
