Modern Interiors – 21st February 2019.

If, like me, you’ve always been interested in interior design, then tune into  Arts Thursday for a conversation with Catriona Quinn a former curator at Sydney Living Museums best known for her expertise in 20th century Australian interior design and decoration.

Catriona was curator of the groundbreaking 1993 exhibition, Sydney Style: Marion Hall Best Interior Designer and her recent research projects have included the design practices of Schulim Krimper, Margo Lewers, Noel Coulson, Décor Associates and the Society of Interior Designers of Australia. Her history of the Gerstl Furniture company is published in The Other Moderns (New South, 2017). Catriona is a PhD candidate at the UNSW.

I’m speaking to Catriona about her research on 20th century modernism in Australian interiors, which will extend our perception on the taste and ideas behind this period.

Then come along to Chee Soon & Fitzgerald, the iconic design shop, which was a well-known presence in Crown Street for many years. It was remarkable not only for the stock carried in the store – but also for having some of the most eye catching windows in town.

Bryan Fitzgerald and Casey Khik will be discussing how the business began and how it survives today in an internet-driven world; as well as highlights such as taking on the agency for Marimekko in Australia and what they now collect and sell in their new premises in Redfern.
