This Thursday, Maisy Stapleton and Paula Towers join you to explore arts initiatives that have pushed through the Covid19 lockdown.
First up we speak with Jo Jansyn, Cultural Development Coordinator at Woollahra Council about how Council has stayed active in the community over the last months with the development of Creative Hoardings ; the new Art Gallery and the Small Sculpture Prize this year.
The Australian Design Centre reopened recently with the exhibition Open House: Tamworth Textiles Triennial on tour from Tamworth Regional Gallery. The curator is Glenn Barkley and the exhibition showcases contemporary textile practice in Australia – showing how textile practice has developed, often in surprising ways.
Maisy talks to Glenn about the exhibition, his interest in textiles and curatorial approach to this exhibition.
This is the final venue for the tour so the last chance to see the show which finishes on 29th July.
Then Paula speaks with renowned Australian landscape painter Idris Murphy who, with artist Joe Frost and musician and sculptor John Turier have launched “I AmArt Support” – a project aimed at highlighting the crucial role of artists in society as well as their plight in these times; a veritable ‘call to arms’ for visual artists to promote this important issue – to ensure it is kept front and centre to support artists’ work as well as each other.
