Today’s special guest knows the art of audio engineering by heart. But unraveling the mysteries of music is in her soul. An academically acclaimed neuroscientist, she holds a doctorate in psychology, majoring in music cognition and psychoacoustics. But once upon a time, she answered a call that placed her at the center of a lightning bolt. The name of said voltage? Prince. For the next five years of her life, my guest devoted countless sleepless nights to the holistic production of iconic albums, Purple Rain, Around the World in a Day, Parade, Sign of the Times and The Black Album. A rarity in her field, she’s one of the world’s few women who has worked as a record producer, engineer, mixer and audio electronics technician. Proving that there is life after Prince, my guest has spent the last two decades working with a range of artists from Bare Naked Ladies and Tevin Campbell to The Jacksons and David Byrne. She earned a PhD in her 50s and has co-authored an amazing book This is What it Sounds Like on the depth that’s found in the music we love. Please welcome telepathically and otherwise professor at the Berklee College of Music, none other than author and soul groove lover, the incredible Dr. Susan Rogers.
