A history of an institution could be dull, but not when it’s about the Art Gallery of New South Wales and written by Steven Miller, the gallery’s archivist – who writes with style, wit and great knowledge.
The book’s title – The Exhibitionists – gives an intriguing idea of what might be inside!
Arts Thursday’s Maisy Stapleton spoke with Steven about the personalities, history and incidents that comprise the story of the Art Gallery.
Steven Miller is head of the National Art Archive and Capon Research Library at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. He has published widely on art, and his most recent books are Awakening: four lives in art (Wakefield Press, 2015) with Eileen Chanin, and Dogs in Australian art (Wakefield Press, 2nd ed, 2016).
