Queen of the Dessert and Boom and Bust – Arts Monday

Bestselling Australian author, Royce Kurmelovs, tells a story about greed, irresponsibility and failing to learn from the past. Boom and Bust is a revealing look at the rise and fall of the mining industry – at the winners and the losers and the impact of the boom that wasn’t meant to end. In Boom and Bust, Royce reveals the reality behind the headlines and how the end of the mining boom affects Australians at a time of rising economic inequality and political upheaval.

Author, Royce Kurmelovs, is my guest today.

Boom and Bust by Royce Kurmelovs, is published by Hachette Australia.

Margaret Fulton: Queen of the Dessert is a musical comedy based on the colourful life of Australian icon, Margaret Fulton – famous for her best-selling cookbooks and teaching Australians how to cook, the musical is based on Margaret Fulton’s biography I sang for my supper. The critically acclaimed production traces Margaret’s school days in regional NSW, her bohemian life in the Rocks, her “decorative, elegant and useless” husbands, working in a factory during WW2, struggles as a single mother and publishing her first cookbook in 1968. The production, by comedy writer Doug Macleod and AFI award winning composer Yuri Worontschak, features Manon Gunderson-Briggs as Margaret Fulton, and a talented cast and production team: Rebecca Spicer, Clare McCallum, Jasmine Sands, Alexander Morgan, and Brett O’Neill, director Ruth Fingret, musical director Mary Lennon and choreographer, Emma Jarman. The Sydney premiere of Margaret Fulton: Queen of the Dessert coincides with the 50thanniversary release of the original Margaret Fulton cook book published by Hardie Grant.

Producer, David Spicer, is my guest today.
