Over the past half decade the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival has grown from fairly modest beginnings to become one of the major events on the Sydney music calendar. Held over twelve days, in a variety of venues, the festival brings together a remarkably diverse group of artists from all over the world. Now in its sixth year the 2017 roster is arguably the most exciting ever and a wonderful opportunity to catch some truly outstanding artists in a number of intimate club and concert settings.

The 2017 Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival features a program of outstanding overseas guests and some of the most vibrant groups on the local scene. This year’s headliners are the brilliant drummer/percussionist Terri Lyne Carrington performing with a star-studded line-up of local musicians.
The festival will welcome ex-patriate trumpeter/composer Nadje Noordhuis who has forged a successful career in New York across jazz, new music and improvisation, and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist/dancer Jen Shyu, whose brilliant, unclassifiable performances were recognised by the prestigious 2017 Downbeat Critics Poll Rising Star Female Vocalist.
The great Sandy Evans features frequently this year. This is no more than she is due, having given so much to the scene as performer, composer, educator and mentor.
