Award-winning sports journalist Rupert Guinness is best-known for his compelling coverage of cycling, rowing and rugby. He has covered the Tour de France 29 times. In 2001, he was awarded a Walkley Award commendation for his inside story on the 1999/2000 Sydney to Hobart yacht race for The Australian. He is also a bestselling author, penning 14 sports-related books.
Rupert’s love of sport isn’t just writing-related, however. He is also a former triathlete, club cyclist and elite lightweight rower. In 2017, he was one of the riders who had to abandon the IndiPac race after cyclist Mike Hall was tragically killed. This year, he and 50+ other riders retraced the route from Freemantle to Sydney in an incredible 28-day trip.
This coming Tuesday, 15 May, at 3pm, Rupert joins GT on Crossing the Line to talk about his family history, his journalistic career, the books that are currently keeping him busy, and what it’s really like to cycle across the Nullabor.
