Where Poetry Meets Community
The Sydney Poetry Picnic 2026 will be held on the beautiful grounds of Writing NSW, celebrating the organisers and conveners who sustain Sydney’s vibrant poetry community. Hosted by award-winning poet Tug Dumbly (Geoff Forrester), the event features curated readings reflecting the diversity of local voices, as well as an open-mic session with registration on the day.

“Poetry will never be ‘big’: and that’s fine.” — Tug Dumbly
Presented by Poetry Sydney in partnership with Romani Art & Culture Collective and Lolo Livina, this free outdoor gathering invites everyone to bring a rug, a poem, and their enthusiasm. In case of bad weather, cancellations will be announced at 11 am via Poetry Sydney’s social media.
Join us for the 2026 Sydney Poetry Picnic — a celebration of community, creativity and the poetic voices that shape Sydney and New South Wales.
