The 60s and Marion Hall Best

Arts Thursday with Maisy Stapleton on 26 July.

WHAT’S ON TODAY’S PROGRAM:

Join Maisy Stapleton in conversation about 60s Interior Decorator/Designer Marion Hall Best and the exhibition honouring her work at Hazlehurst Art Centre.

Michael Lech

Firstly Michael Lech, Curator of the exhibition, gives us an insight into this period in design, when modernism was gaining in popularity. Marion Best was a key proponent, launching an interior style zinging with colour and introducing modern furniture into Australian design consciousness, such as Marimekko and Knoll furniture.

Michael is the Curator of Collections Online at the Caroline Simpson Library & Research Collection at Sydney Living Museums.

Belinda Hanrahan

Then if you want to trip back to the 60s, there is a special 60s Fair Fest at Hazelhurst on Sunday 12 August, guaranteed to have you bopping in your go go gear or searching the stalls for 60s wares. Belinda Hanrahan, Director of Hazelhurst Arts Centre and Manager of Arts and Culture at Sutherland Shire Council gives us the lowdown on a great day of vintage fun.

Marion Hall Best: Interiors is on exhibition at the Hazelhurst Arts Centre until Sunday 19 August. It is a touring exhibition presented by Sydney Living Museums
