Steeped in multicultural Australia and with a name that conjures up another era, Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen are one of Australia’s most magnetic live acts. This sharp dressed five piece band has been touring nationally and internationally to great acclaim for over 16 years, from the Sydney Opera House to the Edinburgh Festival to the backstreets of Budapest. Led by the charismatic Mikelangelo, the group is comprised of violin, clarinet, double bass, accordion and guitar. Their live shows are filled with energy, humour and top draw musicianship. Using musical touchstones such as Klezmer; Balkan folk music, Rhythm’n’Blues and Swing, the band create their own vibrant musical and theatrical world, filled with charming and entertaining characters and adventures. Their latest album, After The Flood, explores the post-WWII migration that shaped modern Australia, what it is to have travelled here and what it is to live here. The group will be bringing those songs to life in the concert setting of Randwick Town Hall. A wonderful show for the whole family, this is vibrant and intelligent music from the heartland played with great passion, skill and showmanship – not to be missed.
