Grammy Award winner Van Hunt has attracted critical praise touring both as headliner as well as alongside such diverse acts as Kanye West, The Roots, Coldplay, Mary J. Blige & Dave Matthews Band.
Van’s self-titled debut established him as a distinctive and original talent with its idiosyncratic melding of R&B, soul, funk, pop & rock ‘n’ roll. The single ‘Dust’ received a 2005 “Best Urban/Alternative Performance” Grammy nomination. ‘On The Jungle Floor’ followed two years later, highlighted by the single, ‘Character’. In 2007, Hunt received a Grammy Award for “Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals” honoring Family Affair, a collaboration with John Legend & Joss Stone.
Hunt’s 2011 release ‘What Were You Hoping For?’. reached the Billboard’s Top 50 R&B and was listed among “The Best Albums of 2011” by New York Daily News, The Chicago Tribune, The LA Times, The AV CLub and a league of other music publications.
‘The Fun Rises, The Fun Sets’, followed in 2015. On August 11, 2017 Blue Note Records finally released “Popular”. Shelved since 2007 the album was pulled from the label’s release schedule at the dawn of a tumultuous decade for the music industry. Nevertheless, the album become an underground sensation, a classic lost album hailed by LA Weekly as “a left-field stunner” for its “trippy fusion of funk grooves, punk guitar and soul vocals.
Joining Van on his first visit to Australia is Daniel March. Fresh from a European tour supporting Mama’s Gun and Minneapolis funk legend St. Paul Peterson (The Time, The Family/fDeluxe) Daniel is an exciting new face taking his place amongst the independent soul music movement with his debut self titled album. Released in Japan via a deal with acclaimed label P-Vine and in Korea through Leaplay Records (Angus & Julia Stone, Brian McKnight) the 10 track long player showcases a rich blend of soulful sounds that is both lyrically refreshing and musically appealing.
Splitting his time between London and Sydney, Daniel March has been honing his craft working with the likes of Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and MC, Maimouna Youssef aka Mumu Fresh (The Roots, Common), Chantae Cann (best known for her work with Grammy Winners Snarky Puppy and Foreign Exchange), Jordan Rakei, Wallace, Thandi Phoenix, Young Gun Silver Fox’s Andy Platts and rising UK star Tiana Major 9 to namebut a few. His 2015 single ‘Nina’ saw him mentioned as one to watch in soul circles. In December 2017 Daniel followed up ‘Nina’ with the single ‘Falling For You’ and a remix by Ashley Beedle through Ramrock records. ‘Falling For You’ landed Daniel substantial airplay on UK radio such as Mi Soul, Solar, Jazz FM and BBC.
