Walsh Bay Arts Precinct has undergone almost 40 years of refurbishment since the Sydney Theatre Company arrived there in 1984. Now upon its completion the whole precinct is being thrown open to the public with activities and workshops for the whole family. And it’s all happening this Saturday, 8 October 2022.
Anne Dunn, Executive Director of the Sydney Theatre Company, chats to Arts Wednesday about the day’s events and activities. From acting workshops for children with the STC, to dance classes and Pilates from the Sydney Dance Company and family singing workshops with Gondwana Voices (Sydney Children’s Choir). Also peak behind the scenes with props and costume displays, and sit in on rehearsals of upcoming performances.
The day kicks off with a round table discussion between the Artistic Directors from each of the 8 Arts organisations that now call Walsh Bay home. (Sydney Theatre Co, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Bell Shakespeare, Australian Theatre for Young People, Sydney Dance Co, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia Choirs & Gondwana Choir)
In its 20th year, we preview week three of the ever popular Short and Sweet Festival – short and sweet because each play is just 10 minutes long. This week on Arts Wednesday we meet Sam Herzog, writer/director of one of this year’s entries Theseus, isn’t it? There are 10 plays performed each night this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Tom Mann Theatre in Surrey Hills. You’ll find all the tickets and program information here.
