Sydney’s libraries have a lot to offer from quiet spaces to read and research, free online access, book clubs and games.
Whether you’re popping in to use the internet or study, building something on a 3D printer, singing along at rhymetime for kids, or accessing the online collections, there is something for everyone at every age.
Sydney has a total of 9 libraries and two library links. There are also many online services such as a collection of ebooks, enewspapers, audiobooks and free online courses.
Sydney’s libraries offer many regular activities:
Enjoy an afternoon playing tabletop games on the last Sunday of each month at Darling Square Library.
Visit the Online Book Club on the last Thursday of each month and enjoy a book from the reading list or bring your own to the discussion. The theme for May is activism and protest.
Sing along at Rhymetime and Storytime every week during school term.
There are also some services the libraries have to offer:
Bringing the library to you
Come along to Surry Hills Library for a fun craft activity as part of Surry Hills @ Play on Sunday 30 April from 10am to 4pm. Join in the festival fun with hands-on activities, live entertainment, kids workshops, dog fashion shows, market stalls, food and much more.
Reconciliation Week 27 May to 3 June 2023
Reconciliation Week is the perfect time to engage with the library’s Koori Collection. This collection includes books, DVDs, CDs and newspapers all celebrating the living cultures of First Nations peoples.
Koori is from the Awabakal language and refers collectively to Aboriginal people from southern NSW and Victoria. This is just one of the interesting facts you can learn from this collection currently available at Customs House and Glebe libraries.
