Six one-bedroom apartments at 113-115 William Street, Darlinghurst will provide subsidised accommodation and workspace for creative professionals in central Sydney through the City of Sydney’s Creative Space program. Those properties are suited to artists and others working in creative industries. Putting these buildings to use, the City of Sydney offers a number of programs that help people and companies find an affordable studio or workspace.

Indeed, in 2013, the City of Sydney opened its first creative live/work residency program when it offered people working in a creative field an opportunity to take up a 12-month affordable apartment lease on William Street. In 2014, 6 talented artists were announced as their very first residents at the William Street creative live/work apartments. The second group commenced in mid-2015 on 12-month leases and our third group of artists commenced in June this year. The current tenants in the William Street creative live/work spaces are Amala Groom, Emma Ramsay, Marian Tubbs, Nat Randal, Tom Smith and Vanessa Varghese

Following the success of the William Street program, The City of Sydney recently completed an application process for a new creative live/work space in Waterloo. Located within the Waterloo Library grounds, these self-contained apartments will be used as a working studio and residential accommodation for artists or creative workers who will collaborate with the library.

Applications open for the William Street creative/live work spaces at the end of November and will close at midnight Tuesday 20 December. Expressions of interest open today and applications will be assessed by an expert panel based on artistic merit, collaboration potential and benefits to the community.
